No commitment, rate confirmed before you book
What separates professional makeup from everyday makeup
Event makeup is designed for a duration and for a light: it has to hold for six to ten hours, survive heat and hugs, and still look right in photographs, where flash and artificial light forgive nothing. Those are technical constraints rather than questions of taste.
It is also a matter of logistics: nobody wants to cross town already made up before a ceremony. The makeup artist comes to wherever you are getting ready. On Swigo you choose who comes, you see their rate before booking, and the payment is only released once the service is done.

Four appointments that do not take the same time
-
Daytime makeup
Even complexion, defined eyes, forty-five minutes. This is the appointment for an interview, a professional portrait or a lunch that matters.
-
Evening makeup
More staying power, more contrast, around an hour. It is built for artificial light and for lasting to the end of the night.
-
Makeup for photography
Carefully worked matte finish, no sunscreen in the complexion, touch-ups planned in. What counts is not how it reads in the mirror but how it reads on the sensor.
-
Weddings
A trial beforehand, then the day itself, often alongside hair and sometimes several people one after another. The only appointment booked months ahead.
In Geneva the season runs from May to September and Saturdays go very early: for a wedding, a makeup artist is often booked six to twelve months ahead, trial included. For everything else, a few days is enough. On Swigo you compare the profiles, reviews and rates of the providers available in your municipality, from Geneva to Carouge, Meyrin, Vernier or Lancy, and you choose yourself who does your makeup.
Frequently asked questions, makeup
Staying power, shades, the trial: the questions that come up most often.
What do I need to have ready at home?
A high chair, a bar stool for instance, so the artist can work standing without wrecking their back; a table for the kit; and above all a spot near a window. Daylight is the only reliable light for choosing a foundation. A mirror and a socket complete the list.
Does the makeup really last all day?
Professional makeup holds for six to ten hours, provided it goes onto prepared skin and is set properly. What shifts it is heat, tears and hands touching the face. The artist leaves you something for lip touch-ups, the one area that genuinely needs going back to.
Do I need a trial before a wedding?
Yes, and it is booked as a separate appointment, four to six weeks ahead. Ask for it at the time of day you will be made up, and keep the makeup on until the evening to see how it moves on your skin. Take photos with flash: it is the only way to check how it reads in images before the day itself.
What makes the price vary?
Three things: the occasion, since daytime makeup does not need the staying power of wedding makeup; the trial, charged separately when it happens; and the number of people getting ready in the same slot. Each provider sets their own rate: it is on their profile and confirmed to you before booking.
Can several people have their makeup done?
Yes, and it is the most common arrangement on event mornings. Allow thirty to forty-five minutes per person after the first, and give the exact number when booking: it determines what time the artist arrives, and therefore whether everyone is ready in time.
