How often should you book a regular clean?
Regular cleaning is the everyday upkeep of your home, repeated at a fixed interval: floors, kitchen, bathroom, dust and laundry. It does not replace a deep clean, and it does not need to: because it comes back every week or every fortnight, it never lets anything build up.
Most Geneva households book two to four hours, once a week or once a fortnight. On Swigo you choose who comes, you see their rate before booking, and the payment is only released once the work is done.

What is included, and what is not
This scope is indicative: it describes what is usually covered. Every provider adjusts their own, and you confirm it with them before booking.
-
Kitchen
Worktop, table, sink and taps. Outside of appliances, hob and microwave. Bins taken out and bags replaced.
-
Bathroom and WC
Shower, bath, basin and WC cleaned and descaled. Mirrors, tiling and taps. Towels changed if you leave them out.
-
Living areas
Floors vacuumed and washed, rugs vacuumed. Dust on furniture and reachable surfaces. Beds made, or sheets changed if you leave them out.
What is not included
- Ironing, which is agreed with the provider: not everyone takes it on, and it uses up part of the slot
- The oven, the extractor hood and the inside of the fridge, which fall under deep cleaning
- Outside windows and any work requiring more than three steps up a stepladder
- Deep cleaning of rugs and fitted carpets, by hot water extraction
- Delicate laundry, silk, leather and cashmere, and any sewing alterations
- Childcare, dog walking and looking after pets
- Clearing out, moving and carrying heavy loads
Something extra to add? Many providers are happy to take on an additional task. Agree it before booking, it saves misunderstandings on the day.

Four ways to have your home looked after
-
The weekly clean
The most common rhythm in Geneva: two to four hours, the same day each week. It takes the least organising, because it turns into a habit.
-
The fortnightly clean
For a home that is lightly used, or a tighter budget. Allow an hour more than weekly: a fortnight is long enough for the kitchen and bathroom to need real work again.
-
Ironing on its own
Some providers take laundry only, one or two hours a week. It is often the first task people hand over, while they are still hesitant about giving out keys.
-
The one-off clean
Before having people over, after a holiday, at the end of a heavy month. It is booked on its own, with no commitment, and many regular clients started exactly there.
Whether you are looking for a cleaner in Geneva for a few hours a week or a one-off helping hand, the principle stays the same: you compare the profiles, rates and reviews of the providers available in your municipality, from Geneva to Carouge, Meyrin, Vernier or Lancy, and you choose yourself who comes through your door. The payment, meanwhile, is only released once the work is done.
Frequently asked questions, cleaning and ironing
Equipment, keys, ironing: the questions that come up most often.
Do I have to supply the products and equipment?
For regular cleaning it is usually the home’s own equipment that gets used: your vacuum, your mop, your products. It is simpler and it costs less. Some providers bring their own and charge slightly more for it. The information is on each profile, and you can agree it before booking.
Do I need to be there during the service?
Not necessarily. Most regular clients leave a key or a code after the first few visits. For the first one, stay around for twenty minutes or so: that is the moment to walk through the home together and say what matters to you.
Is ironing included?
It is agreed with the provider: not everyone takes it on, and it is not counted into the clean by default. Say how much you have before booking, allowing roughly an hour for ten shirts or so. Some do it within the booked slot at the same hourly rate, others prefer you to allow an extra hour.
How many hours should I allow?
Two hours for a studio or a two-room flat, three hours for a four-room flat, four hours and up for a house. Allow an extra hour for the first visit: the home is not yet in a rhythm, and the provider is discovering the place.
How is this different from a deep clean?
Regular cleaning keeps on top of what gets dirty each week. A deep clean picks up what everyday upkeep never touches: the oven, the extractor hood, the inside of cupboards, full descaling, the tops of wardrobes. The two go together: a deep clean once or twice a year, regular cleaning in between.
