How far does a deep clean go in a lived-in home?
A deep clean is a thorough clean of a home that is still lived in, with the furniture where it stands. It picks up everything the weekly clean never touches: the inside of the oven and the extractor hood, the shower seals, the tops of wardrobes, the skirting boards, the radiators, the window channels, behind the appliances. Nothing is moved out, everything is moved aside.
It is booked once or twice a year, or after a long absence, an illness, or light building work. On Swigo you choose the provider yourself, you see their rate before booking, and the payment is only released once the work is done.

What a deep clean picks up, and everyday upkeep leaves behind
-
The kitchen
Oven, extractor hood and filters, hob, inside of the cupboards and the fridge. It is the room where grease settles, and the one where the work shows most.
-
The bathroom
Full descaling of the shower, the screens, the taps and the seals. With the hard water in Geneva’s network, this is what comes back fastest.
-
The forgotten surfaces
Tops of wardrobes, skirting boards, radiators, switches, handles, light fittings, window channels. Nothing spectacular, but it is what makes a home look clean.
-
Floors and textiles
Deep vacuuming, floor washing, sofa and mattress depending on the provider’s equipment. A heavily soiled fitted carpet, though, needs hot water extraction.
A yearly deep clean costs less than catching up later: limescale left to settle eventually eats into seals and taps, and grease baked into an oven comes off in hours, not minutes. On Swigo you compare the profiles, reviews and rates of the providers available in your municipality, from Geneva to Carouge, Meyrin, Vernier or Lancy, and you choose yourself who comes.
Frequently asked questions, deep cleaning
Duration, equipment, how it differs from other services: the questions that come up most often.
How is this different from regular cleaning?
Regular cleaning keeps on top of what gets dirty each week, in two to four hours. A deep clean picks up what everyday upkeep never touches: oven, extractor hood, seals, tops of wardrobes, skirting boards, radiators. It takes a day, and it only comes round once or twice a year.
How is this different from end of tenancy cleaning?
End of tenancy aims at an inventory check and is done with the home empty, with a wider scope and a standard set by the letting agency. A deep clean happens around you, furniture in place, with no report at the end. If you are moving out, end of tenancy is what you need.
How long should I allow?
Allow six to ten hours for a lived-in four-room flat, more if the kitchen has seen heavy use or the home has not been gone over in a long time. Two providers can share the day, or you can split the work across two visits, kitchen and bathroom first.
Do I have to supply the equipment and products?
It depends on the provider. A deep clean asks for more than everyday cleaning: degreaser, descaler, sometimes a steam cleaner. Some arrive with everything, others use your products and charge slightly less for it. The information is on each profile.
Do I need to empty the cupboards first?
Yes, for any cupboard you want cleaned on the inside: it is not for the provider to decide what gets thrown out or put away. Take the contents out the day before, it saves paying for handling time at cleaning rates.
How often should it be repeated?
Once or twice a year is enough in a home that is cleaned regularly. Without regular cleaning in between, count on three times a year: limescale and grease come back all the faster for being left to settle.
