Women’s hair outside the salon, what actually changes?
It is the classic salon appointment, taken out of the salon: a consultation before cutting, a shampoo, the cut, then styling, blow-dry, straightening or curls. Colour and highlights are a separate service, with their own timing and their own rate: they are booked apart.
Outside the salon, one thing changes: there is no backwash basin, so washing and rinsing happen at your sink, shower or bath. Everything else travels with the hairdresser, scissors, combs, hairdryer and products. On Swigo you choose who comes, you see their rate before booking, and the payment is only released once the appointment has taken place.

What is included, and what is not
This scope is indicative: it describes what is usually covered. Every provider adjusts their own, and you confirm it with them before booking.
-
The cut
Consultation and advice before the first cut. Shampoo and detangling at your water point. Cut, layering, fringe and trimming the ends. Cut hair swept up at the end of the session.
-
The styling
Blow-dry, straightening or curls with tongs. Styling with products, without overloading. Simple up-do, ponytail or half-up.
-
The occasions
Up-dos and event hair, on a longer appointment. A trial before a wedding, if you plan it when booking.
-
Optional
Deep conditioning, mask or treatment course, to be stated when booking.
What is not included
- Colour, highlights and balayage, which need processing time and a rate agreed directly with the hairdresser
- Relaxing, keratin straightening and other long chemical treatments
- Extensions, weaves and cornrows, which need their own time and equipment
- Men’s clipper cuts and beard trims, which belong to the barber
- Children’s haircuts, which are booked as a separate service
- Medical treatment of the scalp, hair loss or dermatitis, which belongs to a dermatologist
Something extra to add? Many providers are happy to take on an additional task. Agree it before booking, it saves misunderstandings on the day.

Cut, blow-dry, up-do: what works best outside the salon
-
The cut
On washed hair cut wet, or dry to follow the natural fall. It is the service that needs the least logistics.
-
The blow-dry
Drying and shaping with a brush. It mainly asks for time and a well-placed socket, rarely anything else.
-
Up-dos and events
Wedding, party, ceremony: the hairdresser comes to wherever you are getting ready, which removes the trip to the salon at the worst moment of the day. It is the appointment most often paired with makeup.
-
Colour
Colour, highlights and balayage need processing time and separate rinsing: allow a longer slot and a rate agreed in advance, rather than an add-on to a cut.
A Geneva salon carries rent, staff and overheads that an independent hairdresser does not: that is where most of the price difference comes from, rather than from the quality of the work. On Swigo you compare the profiles, reviews and rates of the providers available in your municipality, from Geneva to Carouge, Meyrin, Vernier or Lancy, and you choose yourself who does your hair.
Frequently asked questions, women’s hair
Equipment, washing, price: the questions that come up most often.
What do I need to have ready at home?
A water point for the shampoo, sink, shower or bath; a chair without a high back, at a comfortable height; and a socket, ideally near a mirror. If your floor is light-coloured, a towel or sheet under the chair saves a lot of sweeping. Nothing else.
Does the hairdresser bring their own equipment?
Yes: scissors, combs, clippers, hairdryer, tongs and products. You only provide water and electricity. If you would rather use your own shampoo or a particular product, say so, most providers are happy to work with it.
How do I know the cut will be what I want?
Look at the work and the reviews on the profile before booking, and have two or three photos ready of what you have in mind. The appointment always starts with a consultation: that is the moment to say what you do not want, and to hear what is realistic on your hair.
How far ahead should I book?
A few days is enough midweek. Saturdays, the day before public holidays and the wedding season from May to September go much faster: allow one to two weeks ahead for a specific date, and more for bridal hair with a trial.
