Men’s cuts and barbering, two jobs in one appointment
Two distinct jobs, often booked together. The men’s cut means clippers and scissors: fades, blends, neckline and around the ears. Barbering means the beard: trimming, shaping, clean lines, and for some barbers a traditional shave with a hot towel and a blade.
None of that needs a salon chair. It takes a chair, a socket, a water point and, for a shave, a way to warm a towel. On Swigo you choose your barber yourself, you see their rate before booking, and the payment is only released once the appointment has taken place.

What is included, and what is not
This scope is indicative: it describes what is usually covered. Every provider adjusts their own, and you confirm it with them before booking.
-
The cut
Fade, blend and scissor cutting. Neckline, around the ears and the temples. Razor finish on the outlines. Cut hair swept up at the end of the session.
-
The beard
Trimming and shaping with clippers and scissors. Clean lines on the cheeks and under the chin. Hot towel, then finishing oil or balm.
-
The traditional shave
Hot towel preparation. Straight razor shave, a fresh blade for every client. Soothing aftershave care.
-
Optional
A cut for someone else in the household straight after, in the same slot, to be stated when booking.
What is not included
- Colouring hair or beard, which needs a longer slot and a rate agreed in advance
- Shaving over broken or irritated skin, or during an acne flare-up
- Transplants, hair loss treatments and scalp micropigmentation
- Medical treatment of the scalp or skin, which belongs to a dermatologist
- Children’s haircuts, which are booked as a separate service
Blades are fresh for every client, and combs and guards are disinfected between appointments. Something extra to add? Many providers are happy to take on an additional task, agree it before booking.

Cut, beard, shave: what you are actually booking
-
The fade
The blend from temple to neckline, with clippers and guards. It is the most requested service, and the one that shows fastest as it grows out.
-
The beard trim
Shaping, razor lines, an oil finish. It is redone every two to three weeks if you want the lines to stay clean.
-
The traditional shave
Hot towel, lather and blade. It takes around twenty minutes, and it is not done on irritated skin.
-
The rhythm
A short fade holds for two to three weeks, a longer cut four to six. It is the most frequent appointment in the catalogue.
A men’s cut comes round every three weeks: over a year it is by far the most frequent appointment in the whole catalogue, and therefore the one where travel costs most in accumulated time. Fifteen minutes there and back, seventeen times a year, adds up to a full day. On Swigo you compare the profiles, reviews and rates of the providers available in your municipality, from Geneva to Carouge, Meyrin, Vernier or Lancy, and you choose yourself who cuts your hair or trims your beard.
Frequently asked questions, men’s cut and beard
Equipment, hygiene, price: the questions that come up most often.
What do I need to have ready at home?
A chair without a high back, a socket, a water point and, if your floor is light-coloured, a towel or sheet underneath. For a traditional shave, have a way to warm a towel. The barber brings everything else.
Does the barber bring their own equipment?
Yes: clippers, guards, scissors, razor, fresh blades, towels, lather and aftercare. You only provide electricity and water. If you want a particular product used, say so, most are happy to work with it.
Is a straight razor shave safe?
Yes, on three conditions that are not up for negotiation: a fresh blade unwrapped in front of you, healthy skin with no cuts or picked spots, and a barber who takes the time for the hot towel before starting. If any of the three is missing, postpone. On irritated skin, a shave turns a nuisance into an infection.
I get ingrown hairs, what can I do?
It is common with curly beards, and the answer is not to shave closer: quite the opposite. Keep one or two millimetres with the clippers, shave with the grain, and exfoliate gently twice a week. A barber used to textured hair and beards will adapt the technique: check for that on the profile before booking.
What makes the price vary?
Three things: the service, since a cut alone costs less than a cut followed by a beard; the beard work asked for, as simple shaping is not a full traditional shave; and the starting point, since a beard left for several months needs a longer slot. Each provider sets their own rate: it is on their profile and confirmed to you before booking.
How often should I come back?
Two to three weeks for a short fade or clean beard lines, four to six for a longer cut. That is what makes this service unusual: the appointment comes round so often that travel ends up weighing more than the price of the cut.
